The law follows the standards of the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Act. Sex offenders in Missouri must register within 3 days of release from jail or correction facility. Persons convicted of a sex crime in another state but wishes to move to Missouri must register in the state. Sex offenders in the state must report any changes to their registered information to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer.

This is because home, work, school, and temporary address information may not be adequate to map. It also is important to recognize that not all institutions such as schools or day care centers may be located on offender maps. The MSHP receives mapped institutional data from different state agencies, and has no control over the completeness or accuracy of these data. Discrepancies in mapped data when found can be reported to the MSHP for correction.
Additional information and verification may be obtained from the Chief Law Enforcement Official Sheriff of the county where the sex offender resides. The information on the web site refers only to persons who have been convicted of, found guilty of or plead guilty to committing or attempting to commit sexual offenses and may not reflect the entire criminal history of a particular individual.
